Dextrose-A Fructose Free Sweetener

Dextrose or D-glucose is a monosaccharide meaning it is one sugar and not two sugars (disaccharide) like sucrose which is fructose and glucose. It is free from fructose which makes it a great choice of sweetener for those who have fructose intolerance.

It is about 25% less sweet than sugar so you may have to use a little more as a sugar substitute. Because it is a monosaccharide is absorbs into the bloodstream quickly and is high glycemic.

I bought this sweetener at a health food store. The brand was NOW. You can find it on, 10 lb for about $25.00.

Cookie Recipe

I have just recently started using this sweetener and made these yummy cookies.

1/2 cup butter

1 1/2 cups dextrose

1 egg

1 1/3 cups flour (I use a gluten free flour blend but you can use any flour.)

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Stir softened butter with dextrose. Add egg and stir. Add flour, baking soda, salt and vanilla.

Form is balls on baking sheet. These cookies spread out and became very flat.

Bake for 15 minutes. They have a chewier texture than normal cookies but my kids loved them.

Chocolate Banana Smoothie

I have found that this sweetener works very well in smoothies.

This is one of my favorites.

1 1/2 cup of rice milk (or any other milk)

1 ripe banana

3 TBS cocoa powder

3 TBS rice protein powder (or other protein powder)

2 TBS dextrose

1 TBS chia seeds

Blend thoroughly and enjoy!
