Homemade Omega Supplement

Doterra has an amazing omega supplement called xOmega. Of course, I had to try to make my own and I feel like the batch I made was actually superior to the DoTerra supplement. The discounted DoTerra price for the xOmega ends up being about $0.25 a capsule. With my calculations you could make a higher quality supplement for around $0.15 a capsule.

The ingredients below are enough to make several batches of the supplement. If you purchase everything on the list you should be able to make at least 680 capsules.

  1. 8 oz liquid Fermented Cod Liver oil from Green Pasture. You can buy it at www.greenpasture.org.
  2. Tropical Traditions Gold Label Coconut Oil (this is the best coconut oil and you can use a less expensive kind as long as it is organic)
  3. NOW astaxanthin 90 capsules
  4. Clove essential oil, I use Mountain Rose Herbs or DoTerra
  5. Frankincense essential oil, i get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs for about $17 for 0.5 oz. It is organic and again I can't tell any difference between that one and the Doterra one. Keep in mind that you will not use all of the astaxanthin, clove and frankincense in one batch so you will have more for later.
  6. Borage seed oil, I also get this from Mountain Rose Herbs 4 oz for $16.50, this will last a long time.
  7. Flax seed oil, this is available at most health food stores or you can purchase it on Amazon.

For a less expensive option you could use Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil and a less expensive brand of coconut oil. Costco has a 78 oz container for $20 that I really like as well.

This is a sample recipe but you can vary it if you like. It will probably make around 150 capsules. You can buy the capsules at a health food store or Amazon. I like the NOW 00 size. I have a capsule filler which you can also get on Amazon.

Omega Supplement Recipe

1/4 cup coconut oil (melted in double boiler, not microwave)

1/4 cup cod liver oil

2 TBS borage seed oil

2 TBS flax seed oil

10 drops clove oil

10 drops frankincense oil

5 capsules astaxanthin (poke a hole and squeeze out liquid inside)

Mix everything together. Fill the capsule filler with the bottom part of the capsule. Use a dropper to drop the liquid into the capsules. Cap the capsules, put in an empty bottle and put immediately in the fridge. If you get lazy or too busy, as I often do, you can just put the mixture in the fridge and then eat 1 teaspoon a day. The coconut oil should make it set up to a soft solid consistency.

When using the capsule filler be careful not to lift up the top part of the capsules will fall over and you will have to start all over. I have made this mistake several times, it stinks!
