Organic Essential Oils

Essential oils are extremely beneficial to the skin. They easily penetrate the skin to provide all kinds of healing. The best essential oils are those that are tested to be 100% pure. Organic essential oils may be certified organic but can still be contaminated. That is why it is always best to use only those oils that have been tested. The testing is done with mass spectrometry and gas chromatography.

Along with being 100% pure they also contain the right amount of every potent healing agent. For example, one plant grown in the US may not have the potency of a plant grown in Italy or South America. For it to be guaranteed pure, it must also be edible.

I have been using essential oils off and on for 15 years and absolutely love them. However, I have only recently really tapped into their power on a daily basis. I now apply some to my face and neck whenever I feel tired, stressed or anxious. They instantly alleviate my stress. They are also amazing for health, skin and house cleaning.

They are extremely safe and can be used, diluted, on babies. One or two drops of lavender or tea tree in 2 oz of coconut oil is a great blend. Essential oils are very powerful and can be more effective than many medications. I have replaced almost everything in my medicine cabinet with essential oils. If you are in a profession such as a massage therapist where you are using essential oils all day you may want to also take milk thistle. Milk thistle aids the liver in breaking down excess oils.

One of my favorite brands is Aromatics International.

They test every batch for purity using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. I really like that they provide the test results on the website. Their oils are spectacular.

I have been very happy with the quality and price of Mountain Rose Herbs. I have recently started using some from NOW. These are the most affordable and available at the local health food store. They also have some available that are certified organic. Many oils although not certified organic may still be organic and wild harvested.

Below are some of my favorite oils and how I use them.

Clove

Clove essential oil is one of my favorites. It is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal as many are. Clove also kills parasites. Clove oil has pain relieving properties and is great for toothaches and teething. I frequently put doTERRA clove in my mouth to fight off viruses. Recently I had a patch of skin on my face that had little bumps that would not go away. I though it could be a skin parasite. Nasty, I know but more common than you would think. I mixed some clove in hazelnut oil and applied it to the patch for a couple of months. It finally went away and I had had it for over a year.

Lemon

Lemon has a heavenly scent. It is very uplifting. Lemon has great anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. I use it frequently in cleaning. I drop a few drops in a bottle of water with baking soda or castile soap to spray on countertops. I also use it in skincare. Women love my lemon salt/sugar scrub. I simply fill a jar with sugar or salt. Cover it with a carrier oil such as coconut, almond or olive oil and add as much lemon oil as I want to get a great scent.

Lavender

I love lavender. Lavender has a sweet floral smell. It is fabulous for sunburns and any kind of burn. I cook a lot and frequently burn myself. I have lavender in my kitchen cupboard. I apply it on any burn within a minute and I never blister or scab no matter how serious the burn. Lavender has a soothing, calming effect. I frequently drop a few drops in our baths. Recently, my little girl fell and bonked her head. She was inconsolable. I tried everything to console her and nothing worked. I dropped a couple of drops of lavender on her back and within 1 minute she stopped crying. Lavender is wonderful in skincare. Mix a few drops of lavender with a carrier oil such as jojoba or almond for a fabulous facial serum.

I also love to put it in the bath or a foot soak.

Orange

Orange is very joyful. It is a fabulous scent that elevates. Orange is great to add to any DIY skincare or cleaning product. I put it in my homemade shampoo.

I also use orange in a homemade air freshener. I fill a small spray bottle of water. I then drop in several drops of orange. I shake before spraying and spray it in the air. It freshens that air and kills germ. For a more potent spray, I add clove or cinnamon.

Peppermint

Peppermint is fabulous to have. Peppermint has anti-inflammatory properies. I used it mostly for its pain relieving properties. Rubbing it on a stiff neck or aching shoulders provides instant relief. Peppermint is also great for digestion and nausea. It has saved me in my pregnancies. Whenever I felt nausea coming on, I would rub a little on my tongue and it would alleviate the nausea. It is also very beneficial to rub on the feet to help with digestive problems. doTERRA peppermint can be put in a capsule and swallowed to quickly aid in stomach problems.
